Thanks to everyone who gave generously to support the HIV/AIDS prevention and support services of the Center. We lucked out with the weather and had a sunny morning. We were a smaller group this year, but a very friendly bunch of people. The shirts were a hit - even if gray does not stand out as much as yellow. If you did not a chance to donate yet, you can still do so here: http://aidswalknewyork2008.kintera.org/ridavio

flushing

Earlier this month I finished a very interesting project that had me shooting in ethic neighborhoods throughout the boroughs. The diversity of this city, that is 40% foreign born is truly amazing. Walking down the strip in Brighton Beach was possibly as close as I will get to Odessa this season. We also documented South Asians in Jackson Heights, Haitians in Flatbush, and Dominicans in Washington Heights. There are many more communities, but the limited budget and time for the project didn't allow us to do more this time around. This particular sequence opens with the introduction from the video to the Chinese community in Flushing, but then is interrupted by some street dancers who wanted to be filmed so they could go on YouTube. I dutifully obliged. While they didn't make the final cut of the project, you can see them here, and who knows, maybe they will catch it as well.
