leak

Maybe Irene didn't stay very long in New York City, but she did leave me this parting gift. The carpet was soaked, but dried quickly thanks to the abundant sunshine this week. On the upside it could have been much worse - my neighbors kitchen ceiling was completely destroyed. He happens to be the super as well. We are getting a new roof!

irene

Middleburgh, NY inundated from Hurricane Irene. Having gone upstate for the weekend we thought we would be away from all the action on the coast. It turns out the flooding was much worse in the mountains. Little creeks became raging rivers that swept away houses. We were without TV, radio or internet, texting the city and hearing the storm had passed we attempt to return to the city when our power goes out late in the day. Our way is quickly blocked by washed out roads. After three detours we have to stay the night in Oneonta, finally finding a hotel on the fifth attempt. The following day it take us nearly 8 hours to make it back to the city. New Jersey is equally bad for flooding.

mist

The Saturday before the storm starts hazy and cloudy, but it soon burns off and we go to the farmer's market at the round barn and then return to hang on the deck for the afternoon. In the evening we grill.

rendezvous

Going to meet Skoti at the bistro in Riverside Park. It seems to be the place to get together with friends coming back to town this summer.

echo

On the second-to-last day of editing a segment on New York's Marriage Equality vote for In the Life I took a break to walk around Madison Square Park. About two hours earlier many people had evacuated the Flatiron Building, under the serene gaze of Echo in the background, as a 5.8 earthquake shook the East Coast and rattled many nerves in the buildings of New York City. I was working on the 4th floor of a building across Fifth Avenue from the Flatiron, but didn't feel anything.

Rarely has this room been open when I visited PS 1 in the past, and actually it gets quite warm in there! But it is a cool experience to art.

because

It's far from perfect, but I like this picture for some reason. Somehow the haze of August is apparent. I hadn't been by the flower garden in quite a while, with enough time to take a picture anyway.

map

On the way to the studio I see the Google Maps Street View car photographing 23rd Street between 6th and 5th Avenues. For all I know it took a picture of me taking a picture of it.
