I was camera 3 during the debates for the Democratic candidates for the 15th congressional district of New York State at MNN this evening. Lot of fun doing a live shoot - the adrenaline, the crazy talk in the control room in my ear as I pan and focus.
Congressman Rangel got all the attention from other news organizations following the debate. He is the center of controversy and scandal and five fellow democrats are running against him for the seat he has held for decades.

How to use the new voting machine in New York City
The New York City chapter of the League of Women Voters sponsored a demonstration of the new machines New Yorkers will use to vote in this election season. This is an excerpt from the full length show of the demonstration that will air on Manhattan Neighborhood Network this Sunday. New York City will be using paper ballets filled out in blue ink with pens provided by the board of elections. There will also be Ballot Marking Devices that will assist those who need help reading and marking the fine print on the ballot. Be sure to turn your ballot over as propositions you can vote on will be on the reverse side. And you still have the option to write in your candidate - in this case, peanut butter crunch!

On the final day of Summer Streets, did a few loops with Basil and crew, then brunch in the courtyard at B-Bar, followed by another bike trip from the East Village across the Williamsburg Bridge to Brooklyn then up over the Pulaski Bridge and the Newtown Creek pictured here and on to Warm Up at PS1 in Long Island City. It was back to Basil's for dinner in the East Village and then back up the west side along the Hudson River to arrive home thoroughly exhausted. No one can say summer isn't being enjoyed to the fullest in this city.

berries
Here in New York, we are now in that late summer season when you go out on a hike and realize that blueberries are fully ripe, but you forgot your bowl to gather some to take home for pancakes tomorrow morning. Not to worry, Ben will show you how to quickly craft one out of wild grass growing by the side of the path. The pancakes were delicious, btw.

Caught on Summer Streets just north of Astor Place, with bikers, skateboarders, a scooter and pedestrians, you about cover what runs these streets - and not a car in sight.

Stopping by the main plaza at Lincoln Center on the way to see the Paul Taylor dance company at the Damrosch Park bandshell, the water seemed so refreshing on this hot evening, and I was surprised by how high it blasts.

I had noticed this small ghost bike for some time now, especially at night, returning home from jaunts downtown. It's located right where I turn north on West End Avenue and 100th Street after coming up from the river. I have to say it is particularly jarring to see this memorial with a child's bike. It reads Jonah Shapiro, aged 9. Looking in to who this was I notice there will be a hearing this month on removing such memorials. I intend to comment on this and I hope you do to. As another blogger mentions, "Hug your family. And wear a helmet."
