pride
and joy. On the day New York City celebrates Pride for LGBT of all persuasions it starts in the subway on the way down to the festivities. Young people from all over the metropolitan area show their enthusiasm with color. Spirits and voices ran high on the train and this year had the extra push of the recent passage of marriage equality. Governor Cuomo marched at the front of the parade.

All the world is a stage, but my little piece of Central Park is the proscenium for tonight's performance of Moliere's The School for Husbands by New York Classical Theater.

So this was taken within the first week of having the iphone on one of those early 'heatwave' days, it was stifling out.

wet-nic
The Mayor's Pride picnic started pleasantly enough under threatening clouds, the mood was urgent, everyone was gaming the senate vote on marriage equality which was possibly happening that evening. As things were winding down the thunder rolled and the rain poured. Everyone gathered under the big tent for one last glass of wine before trailing out into the city.

Jacqueline Jonee
Kicking off pride on Monday in a very old-school way. Instead of the usual song and dance though, this clever cross-dresser is actually an accomplished concert pianist.

nice ride
Two things Minneapolis has that NYC does not: a bike share program and city buses with bike racks. I just love a progressive city.

lunch
My first attempt to upload a photo from the iphone goes only so-so, none of the text came through, bear with my learning curve. Running errands on this beyond hot day I found myself hungry at lunchtime in Union Square and paid a visit to an old favorite - Rainbow Falafel. It took me back to my early days in the city, mid to late 90s, when I worked just north of here near Gramercy Park. Whereas then it was just park benches and plain picnic tables, now it's Bryant Park style outdoor bistro furniture. Then you could pick up a free NY Press or something from the Strand, now you pull out your kindle, your ipad or your air. Ah nostalgia.

Cristina and Monica
Another of the videos I produced and directed for In the Life and Freedom to Marry is released today. It's the story of Cristina and Monica, legally married in Connecticut, deeply committed to one another, yet facing the threat of separation or exile because the United States government will not recognize their marriage for purposes of spousal naturalization - something commonly accepted for all heterosexuals. I also created versions of this in Spanish and with English subtitles. Last week the story of George and Farid was released.
